The inspiration behind the CoZee Bedside Crib came from Michael Samuel's 30 years of experience in the nursery industry and the recognition of a gap in the market for a beautifully designed co-sleeping crib that could double as a travel crib. The crib was designed to look like a piece of furniture that a customer would be proud to put in their bedroom, rather than a piece of "equipment". This was achieved through wood finishes and carefully selected colours.
The CoZee Bedside crib has been designed to help develop a special bond with the little one and can also be used as a standalone crib. Its innovative 30-second open and fold mechanism also allows the crib to be used on the move, making the CoZee a baby's home away from home. The crib features a handy storage shelf, a breathable mesh window, a travel bag, and removable, washable fabric lining.
The crib was designed on CAD, with minor tweaks made to the design after the first tooled sample was produced. Different methods of applying a wood effect to an aluminium frame were explored. The crib is tested to both EN1130 and ASTM standards, ensuring its safety and quality.
The crib can be opened and closed in just 30 seconds, and can be adjusted to fit any bed. The project started in January 2016 in London, and launched in March 2017 in the UK and other export markets. The product has been shown in 2 international trade fairs, in Germany and Hong Kong, with fantastic reception in both.
The CoZee Bedside Crib has been awarded Platinum in A' Baby, Kids and Children's Products Design Award in 2017. The award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism, genius, and contribute to societal wellbeing. The CoZee Bedside Crib is indeed a defining aesthetic of an era, advancing the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology, and making the world a better place.
